I’m in the military, and while women have contributed a lot to our shared defense, I hope the Israelis are smart enough to keep women out of the inevitable Gaza invasion. While it’s true that modern weapons have reduced the combat dimorphism between the sexes, the “move” part of “shoot, move and communicate” is a major hurdle for women that training cannot overcome. They just don’t move as well, especially not with a combat load. Plus men have a natural instinct to protect women and that creates distractions that combat units can’t afford.

Of course not, they're not *that* crazy. But they've allowed feminism to degrade their overall readiness and military ethos, as Van Creveld has pointed out for at least 20 years and that has something to do with this. This is not just the "move" part of shoot. I hope that Israeli male soldiers wouldn't have responded to enemy soldiers invading their base by hiding. It's a very feminine response.
I think maybe we have a different idea of what constitutes feminine behavior. I don’t consider fearful responses to be feminine. I get that good women want good men to be willing to volunteer self-sacrifice for their benefit and scorn men who act like cowards, but cowardice is not sex-specific.
The Rilke poem alone would have made me love Martin Van Creveld. Now I must read all his stuff - thank you for introducing him to me
The Irish are the most vile anti Semites in Europe by far. I hope Yeats wasn't because he's in my top 3 for English language poetry. The other two were notorious Jew haters: Ezra Pound and TS Elliot. Oy!
Like some others, I am too stunned to write at length. But the time will come and I'll write a good piece for my Stack
In the meantime, I'm glued to my Israeli TV channel - fortunately, my Hebrew is still good, though I left Israel in 1977

Sure, plus I've seen men freeze up in fear while women remain cool & calm. But combat requires men. And this was a combat zone.
That said, all adults should have been carrying assault rifles. I've never been more thankful for our Founding Fathers.

Thank you for writing your recent pieces
I've been too stunned as well.
