This is a placeholder, it doesn’t describe the full arc of my thinking about this. I’m still thinking. You should be thinking, too. I rarely say things like this but this is a real crisis, far more than October 7. This is IT, the Great Game in the 21st Century. It’s got nukes.
Here’s a good, info-packed article about the reality of Iran closing down the Strait of Hormuz. It lays out just how important this is, and how Iran has been hardening its aggressive capabilities for years.
The feckless US has allowed this to go on - in tandem with allowing them to develop nuclear weapons.
It’s all of a piece.
The only thing it doesn’t fully treat is how the US could react militarily.
“Despite U.S. and foreign forces patrolling the waters around the Red Sea and directly engaging Houthi targets ashore, commercial maritime traffic through that region had largely collapsed last year.”
Despite US and foreign forces patrolling the waters….
And doing nothing.
I’m not a naval expert but my gut which has rarely let me down tells me that the US Navy could flatten Iran - that is, a non-nuclear Iran - if it wants to.
Which means: if there’s a Commander-in-Chief that wants to. But we don’t want to. That would be kind of mean. It would be because of the Jews. They dragged us into this, didn’t they? This is all about Israel, isn’t it?
The US is now effectively disabled by a killer combination of wokeness and isolationism.
That’s the conclusion I’ve come to in the last few days.
The US is hobbled by a combination of wokeness from the left and isolationism from the right. This is a deadly combination — they feed into each other. It’s similar to the isolationism and Popular Front delusions of the 1930s. It rhymes.
More later. I’m thinking.
