I don’t intend for this ‘Stack to become Mamdani central, but what he’s doing is so shocking that I can’t ignore it.
“Man plans, God laughs,” so my plan to ignore him is not working out. Maybe a better quote is Mike Tyson’s full quote about getting punched in the face:
"People were asking me… 'What’s going to happen?.' … I said, "Everybody has a plan until they get hit. Then, like a rat, they stop in fear and freeze.'"
It wasn’t such a crazy plan. Normally you can ignore who is in City Hall. I snoozed through all four years of Eric Adams abysmal, clownish, farcical four years as mayor. I didn’t even bat an eyelash at Warren Wilhelm’s four years. But this is different. I admit it, I was pretty smug. “What can a mayor do, given the sheer weight of institutional inertia?
The next four years will give an answer to that question. Obviously there are limits to his power. I’m not giving into MDS (Mamdani Derangement Syndrome), but I gotta admit, I feel punched in the face. But I’m not a rat and I’m not stopping in freezing in fear.1
Ken Klippenstein (with whom I disagree totally on most issues) is a far better read on this subject than any conservative I’ve so far encountered (apart from me). They are mainly good for gnashing their teeth and moaning about rugged individualism. Which never existed anywhere, and especially not in machine Democrat run NYC. Read Ken and you’ll see what Mamdani did on his first day as mayor, which went beyond what I’ve pointed out.
Demoting Jessica Tisch is a bombshell. That she stayed on was a signal that Mamdani wasn’t going to be too crazy about the NYPD and public safety.
That’s all out the window. He is going to be 100% crazy about the NYPD and public safety. Tisch was basically the actual mayor during Adams’ clown rule. I can’t see her staying on. I shudder to think who he’s going to replace her with.
There ought to be a law against using the word “should” in any writing about politics. But this should wake up the city power brokers: the real estate guys, the finance guys, the guys who run the Port of Authority. But will it? I just don’t know. Which is my way of saying, “No, I don’t think it will wake them up.” They are comatose. These are the people who offered up Nosferatu as the answer to Mamdani. Don’t even mention the Republican Party of NY State - it used to be simply moronic. Now it’s groyper moronic.
Finally, a word to people like the gentleman who left this comment on yesterday’s post. I cannot understand the psychology of someone who goes to the trouble of leaving a comment like “Not worth a reasonable response”?
I am sincerely interested in reasonable disagreements, but comments like that will be removed and the commenter will be blocked. I do not care if I go down to zero readers, in fact, there’s a side of me that would welcome that — I’d write more unselfconsciously. So don’t bother. 2
A little bleak humor here: Eric Adams’ last EO, now revoked, was about rat control. The rats can breathe a bit easier today. Rat lives matter.
(Although I know they will. It’s a mind virus.)

Sometimes, you have to use their own tactics against them. And that’s how you discredit them. Mamdani’s focus must be kept on governing NYC and maintaining its fiscal viability.
Why not start an encampment at Gracie Mansion (he supports encampments, right?). Except the slogans for this protest will be for things worthy of a democracy such as “Free Iran” and “hey, hey, ho, ho, Ayatollahs got to go”. The encampment stays until Mamdani speaks publicly for in favor of the protesters - which as a “Twelver Shia” he’s unlikely to do.
Then, maybe have carts or vans selling Mexican foods with large signs declaring, “Globalize the Enchilada.”
Perhaps another protest against apartheid in Saudi Arabia, demanding that Mamdani go on record supporting the opening Mecca and Medina to non-Muslims. After all, Jerusalem and Rome are open to all.
Maybe a protest against slavery in Qatar, Libya and other Muslim countries is in order, coupled with a demand that Mamdani speak out (against it, obviously).
Maybe demand that Mamdani try Socialism in Uganda by having his family surrender their luxury compound to the poor. At the very least, he should be required to denounce Uganda’s homophobic legislation - his family seems close to the actual politicians who pushed those regressive measures through. Isn’t he supposed to be a “progressive”?
As a self-styled man of the people, maybe Mamdani can show he cares by turning Gracie Mansion into a homeless shelter, a safe shooting gallery or both.
I’m sure there are many other bits of guerrilla theater that we could come up with to spotlight his moral hypocrisy.
Let Mamdani be forced to govern NYC, period. That’s the real test if there’s any chance for the DSA to gain any traction.
And when he inevitably fails to bring Socialism to NYC, it must be clear to all that the fault is with Socialism itself and that there was no “stab in the back” by you know who.
Please, don't try to blame the Republican Party for this fiasco.
The Democrat Party gave this rat idiot the line that they control in the election booth.
They have done the same thing all around the country where Democrat Socialists have
been elected by their constituents. Why would they allow anyone who perceives the
U.S. to be evil, and favors the Palestinians and Hamas, and other terrorist organizations,
and who oppose Israel one of our best and strongest allies? And let's not forget the
criminal illegal aliens, and terrorists allowed to come here with our open borders, without
being vetted, along with their sanctuary cities that assist this madness.
So in reality the Mamdani Problem that exists today, is a dividend to us from the
Democrats who were the enablers giving this type of candidate their "line" on the
ballot.
Sincerely,
Mel Lax
