That’s how I’m feeling lately, although to tell the truth, the way Will puts it is too elevating. I just feel blah and I don’t care about what’s going on.
Maduro? Whatever.
Mamdani? Same.
Cea Weaver? Yawn.1
This incident in Minneapolis is so… wearying. It follows a pattern. I’m tired already.
But I will say this.
When I first heard about it on X, I made a snap judgement and my brain went into instant, pre-conscious pattern recognition mode based on the barest information.
I pictured a tiny Hispanic woman, terrified, behind the wheel. She’s being swarmed by a bunch of big, black-clad guys with guns, and she knows they’re coming to deport her. She lost her shit.
I felt sympathy.
Then I learned the true context. The woman behind the wheel was not an illegal, she was an American graduate of Vibes U, deliberately there, interfering, filming2, performing. My sympathy evaporated, shriveled up, and died in an instant. She went looking for trouble, found it, and got her ticket punched. She was a white female Jordan Neely in an SUV. The hell with her.
I felt first, I judged second. And no, I’m not apologizing for thinking it through this way. I support ICE. I voted for Trump to protect the border. My empathy is real; my refusal to be jerked around is real too.
And I’m glad for that spark of sympathy. I don’t apologize to anybody for feeling that. I guess I’m not totally without “mirth” (i.e. feeling). Did Shakespeare write about that? Being frozen and getting unfrozen by something and realizing that you’re not totally callous, there’s a beating heart inside. I’m not a Shakespeare expert, I’m a phony who gets quotes from Goodreads, but I’m sure he must have. He wrote about everything under the sun.
But about this shooting, it’s clear that the Democrats are trying to (a) make the Vibes U graduate another George Floyd and (b) detract attention from the Somali daycare scandal.
And we have to ask the media why this is such a big deal, and Katie Abraham isn’t, as Eli Steele points out. We should bash any Xer over the head with the discrepancy.
Notice I haven’t named the Vibes U graduate. I’m doing this in a deliberate inversion of “say her name.” You can say it, but I won’t. I do not care enough to look it up.
The online groyp-brigade is calling her Jewish due to (their favorite word) “physiognomy.” Her mother’s maiden name is Applegate. Sounds pretty “Heritage American” to me. The only reason I’m mentioning this is because I’m a fast typist. It’s so idiotic. They are the anaerobic sludge that scum feeds on.
Her “wife” was. She was part of a group.

I feel bad for all the folks involved in the Minneapolis incident, and their families. The poor dead woman went expecting trouble and got more than she wanted, maybe, but inasmuch as her plan was to disrupt the ICE operation she did very well indeed. Tragic.
Thanks for the Katie Abraham mention. That was also tragic.
