The last months have been a cascading series of internal breakages, all of which I meant to write about and never did, because I was sick, sad, and sore and without energy. Then last night I saw a video on TwiX that created a clean break followed by healing. It was glorious.1
But first, the Israel Day Parade.
It’s a gorgeous day out, a perfect day for a parade and today is the Israel Day Parade in New York City. The parade route is a flat mile from where I live: an easy walk, and I have nothing planned for the day.
I should go to show support.
I’m not.
Because I never do, and today promises to be horrible.
I never go because to be blunt I find the whole thing a cringe. Back in the pre-internet days, some philosopher (George something, I forget his name) was quoted somewhere (I forget )2 as saying (paraphrasing): “for a Jew to wave flags is like an 80-year-old going to kindergarten.” I agree.
Military parades make my skin crawl. The day you find me waving a flag, even Old Glory, is the day you have my permission to call the guys in the white coats. I have been known to stick a flag next to the barbecue on July 4, but wave it around and chant USA! USA!? Nope.
Jews aren’t like the Irish. We don’t do simple-minded ethnic pride the way they do. We’re above and beyond that. We’re more intelligent, focused on action, and mature than they are.
Sorry not sorry I didn’t warn you for the ethno-narcissistic bragging. Here’s more:
Jews don’t wave flags, we win Nobel Prizes and revolutionize 20th century physics.
Jews create new industries. Jews transform old ones. Everywhere, everywhen.
Did you know that NFL Films was founded by a Jew?
I could go on and on and on and on, but I’ll leave it at that. NFL Films, which was the biggest single factor in turning the NFL into America’s No. 1 sport, was founded by a Jew.
You don’t need me to tell you about Jonas Salk and Roslyn Yalow. Everyone else will tell you that. I’ll tell you about NFL Films.
There, that’s my flag-waving.
Still, I should go to show support.
But I won’t. The NYPD is having a horrible time trying to contain well-planned pro-Palestine demonstrations almost every day. These guys know just how to provoke cops into photogenic “overreactions”3 that they duly put on social media.
The last thing the cops need is battling groups of rioters and rape-apologists4 and counter-rioters. Leaving them to do their jobs is the best way I can show support for the parade to continue.
Still, when I see shit like this:
I’m sorely tempted to go and scream “I hope you get raped”, in the words of this lovely lady, bless her sweet, kind soul:5
The screen caption was written by the students who filmed the woman.
They want Public Safety to do something about the alumna while maintaining an illegal encampment.
HAS ANY GROUP OF PEOPLE EVER DESERVED A THRASHING MORE THAN THESE FILTHY SHITS??
Pardon me. I lost my composure.
Watch the whole video—it’s glorious. “Doxx me all you want! You support rape! Raaaapists! I hope you all get raped!”
I hope you all get raped.
I’m not going to dodge and say, “I sympathize with her,” I’m saying:
I agree with her.
Nothing drives me up a wall more than these demonstrations. They are not covered by the First Amendment. They are total, open incitement and they always involve violence or the provocation of violence and they will lead to the complete breakdown of trust and order if left unchecked. They will not burn out, they will gather in intensity until a violent storm erupts.
Watching that video I felt liberated.
But—I’m so well-trained that along with my glee I had the usual nice-lady responses. I shouldn’t be thinking this. I can sympathize but not agree. The civilized second-guessing.
Nope, no more. The lady is right.
They deserve to have happen to them what they both deny and support.
I love that woman. Bless her heart.
For now, and for the first time, I will wave a (virtual) flag:
I wave it in the name of the lovely lady at Columbia University, and this woman, Danielle Gilboa, a hostage for 238 days:
Am Israel Chai!
Placeholders: seeing tweets from Palestinians expressly declaiming their intention to replace the memory of the Shoah with Nakba, and seeing a Palestinian at Auschwitz who filmed himself laughing at it. Yes, a Palestinian actually scrounged up the dough and the time to visit Auschwitz so that he could laugh at its victims. I hate these people. No sympathy left for them.
I looked it up. It was George Steiner. I know he was anti-Israel but I’m leaving this passage because it accurately describes my feelings about parades and flag-waving, although not about Israel itself. I think Steiner was right about the vulgarity, wrong about the essence. And I like the analogy to an elderly man whose been there and done that.
As far as I’m concerned they’re not overreactions, which is why I put the word in quotation marks.
I refuse to call them “demonstrators.” Really, “thugs” is a better word but I’ve settled on “rioters and rape-apologists.”
The screen caption was written by the students who filmed the woman. They want Public Safety to do something about the alumna while maintaining an illegal encampment. Then later in the video, a thin, childish female voice bleats, “We’re stoodents! Whaddis wrong with you?” Have you ever encountered such a bunch of whining cunts?

You missed a terrific parade, my first since childhood. The tone was both serious and celebratory. The police did a splendid job.
