9/7/22: I removed an inappropriate comment, which accused me of “fearmongering” and predicting Substack’s demise. I did no such thing in this post. I am simply pointing out that the neo-Stalinists are already targeting Substack, they will try to destroy it, and if you care about your posts, you should preserve them. I make no predictions. I fervently hope that Substack survives. My Sub, my policies.
A few days ago, in Why I Am On Substack, I hinted that the SJWs may target Substack for destruction:
There have been a bunch of articles in the Times about Substack’s problems, or growing pains. (Google it.) Silicon Valley is a brutal place. It would be interesting to learn whether the Times is involved in trying to destroy Substack and/or whether the government is involved in this. We now know that the government is actively involved in squashing independent voices on Twitter. Why not destroy a platform that allows freedom of expression? There are a million legal ways to do this. I am quite serious when I suggest that at least 10% of the bright young things in Silicon Valley are CIA operatives. But we needn’t go there. Lawfare can be as destructive as a spy operation.
There are many ways to destroy a company by means fair or foul. Watch the TV series Silicon Valley—great show, went as far as a popular TV series could, but it didn’t tell the half of the sheer brutality that the money guys are capable of. Everything they accuse Trump and Putin and the Russian oligarchs of, they are guilty of, in spades. It’s not really the money, it’s the power, and when it comes to power, they literally have no feelings, no morals, no nothing. They would not hesitate to crush Substack if they felt it was a threat to their power.
And then there’s our sneaky, amoral CIA. Ever hear of MK-Ultra? Read about it. Read Poisoner In Chief. Read about The Phoenix Program. We are not nice guys. No one is nice when it comes to power.
Manhattan Contrarian has the goods on government interference in Twitter. The only thing that surprises me is how clumsy it was, and how discoverable. You’d best bet that there are many other instances of interference that are not so easily discoverable. I can think of one way, but I won’t spell it out here. Maybe hardly anyone reads me, but I’m scared of the butterfly effect, you know?
Recently, a transgender activist succeeded in pulling down a site called Kiwi Farms. I won’t link to it; it’s a crazy, toxic site for messed up young men. Yes, I read it—once. I have as much interest in reading sites like that as I have in neo-Nazi websites, anime, and violent porn—that is, none. But I think that neo-Nazi websites, anime, and violent porn should be free to offer their worthless goods on the ‘net.
I defend Kiwi Farms for two reasons.
One: If Kiwi Farms did everything it’s doing now, but didn’t have “transphobic” content, it would still be functioning. The April 13 concern-trolling NY Times article was a clear declaration that the fundamental problem with Substack is freedom of expression about transgenderism.
The hands-off content moderation policy, which allowed transphobic and anti-vaccine language,
Critics say the platform recruits (and therefore endorses) culture war provocateurs and is a hotbed for hate speech and misinformation. Last year, many writers abandoned Substack over its inaction on transphobic content.
Zestworld, a new subscription-based comics platform, has been called “Substack without the transphobia.”
Transgenderism really has become the progressive lodestone. “Which side are you on?” used to be about crossing a union line, being a strikebreaker. Now it’s about this:
and this
to create a sterile, permanently medicalized simulacrum of the other sex.
The second reason I defend Kiwi Farms is self-interest: What’s next? I’ve already said so: Substack. They will not stop until they’ve deprived me of my right to self-expression.
They’re already talking about it on Twitter, here:
Here:
You can do a search yourself on Twitter, keying in “Kiwi Farms” and “Substack.”
I found this really concerning:
It’s blindingly obvious: they are after Substack.
You ain’t seen nothing yet. Free speech is under explicit attack by people as bad as Stalinists. Every bit as bad. Wake up.
Export your posts, and get ready for a shitstorm.
(I keep forgetting the cardinal rule of self-promotion (learned from Rod Dreher): always remind your audience of your genius book.)
